🎓 Capital Area Chapter Adds Student Leaders to Our Board! 🔵⚪
The Capital Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association is excited to announce the addition of two Student Board Member positions to our Board of Directors. These are not honorary or advisory roles—our Student Board Members will serve as fully functioning members of the Board with full voting rights, giving them a meaningful voice in the governance, priorities, and future direction of the Chapter.
The goal of this new initiative is to provide Penn State students with real-world organizational governance and leadership experience in a nonprofit setting. Student Board Members will have the opportunity to participate in board meetings, contribute to strategic discussions, help evaluate and advance Chapter initiatives, and gain firsthand experience with the responsibilities that come with organizational leadership and decision-making. They will also gain exposure to areas such as financial stewardship, community engagement, event planning, fundraising, communications, membership development, and nonprofit governance.
Just as importantly, the program creates an opportunity for students to work alongside experienced Penn State alumni from a variety of professional backgrounds. Through these relationships, students can expand their professional networks, strengthen their communication and leadership skills, gain mentorship, and develop a better understanding of how effective boards and volunteer organizations operate. At the same time, our Chapter benefits from the ideas, energy, perspectives, and experiences of current Penn State students, helping us build an even stronger connection between today's students and our alumni community.
This initiative represents an investment not only in the future of our Chapter, but in the next generation of Penn State leaders. By giving students a genuine seat at the table—and a real vote—we hope to create an experience that prepares them for future leadership in their careers, communities, nonprofit organizations, and the Penn State Alumni Association. We are excited to welcome our Student Board Members and to see the contributions they will make to the Capital Area Chapter!
